Children’s Home

Meet Mama Lita! Mama Lita runs a children’s home of 55 children. Most of the children in this home had to be removed from their home due to abuse and lack of care. This home provides much more than care and support! The children live in a family setting with house parents and they are giving many opportunities to build a successful future. The home is very self sufficient, they have a small livestock farm, a large garden and a rice farm! Our goal is to help this home on a monthly basis to assist with operation cost. Mama Lita also has a passion for her community and surrounding area. Often she is helping others in need!

Sister Eva

Sister Eva is truly a modern day Mother Teresa! Sister Eva has laid down her life for people in need! She is also a doctor. Her organization has a hospital that offers medical care for people living in extreme poverty. She has trained many foot doctors to help people in small rural villages with basic medical needs. These areas don’t have medical care without these foot doctors. Sister Eva also helps 13 squatting communities become self reliant.

True Manila

True Manila is an organization operated by Edwin. Edwin lives in and grew upon in a Squatting community in Metro Manila. His area has 120,000 people living in 1 square kilometre! True Manila helps by providing the basic needs of life for those living in extreme poverty. They daily feed children who for the most part live in the streets. Many children and families living in this area are in desperate need.

Africa

The doors to One By One Kenya opened in 2012. The project cost £150,000 (almost $200,000), and has provided not only a beautiful residential facility for local children, but two schools also. We have almost 200 boys and girls in our care – many who live at the centre and others who attend daily for meals and education as part of our Homebase project.

Social workers stated in their report that many of the children in One By One’s care were previously at risk of starvation, child labour, rape and even torture. It is truly heartbreaking to consider what some of these children have endured. But through care and compassion, One By One has seen transformation in their lives, giving them safety, stability and, most importantly of all, love.

EDUCATION

A vital part of any child’s growth is education, and we were delighted to open King’s School in conjunction with our home in 2012. Through the generosity of people throughout the world, we are able to employ skilled teachers, teach from national curriculum in a caring and loving environment and prepare children for their future careers. King’s School has exceeded its expectations – coming first in our region in the exam league tables – and wealthier families have started paying to send their children there.

Kenya Dignity Project

While I was in Maua Kenya I had the opportunity to partner with One by One to reach 2000 girls with the dignity project.

In many developing nations, girls miss a week of school each month due to their periods, meaning they lose a vital part of their education. In our Dignity Bags, which are given to every girl that goes through The Dignity Project, girls receive three re-usable sanitary products. Developed in Uganda, the pads are washable and can last for up to one year. Dignity Bags also include two pairs of underwear and information about trafficking. Bags are given out at the end of each Dignity Day along with food and refreshments for the girls.

Located an hour from Uganda’s bustling capital of Kampala, Aggie’s Baby Home (ABH) was founded in 2009 by Agnes Lubega of Love Works International Uganda and Partners in the U.S.

ABH has at present rescued over 60 babies. Children are nurtured and loved while ABH works to find caring families locally and abroad.

FeViva

Fe Viva (Faith Alive) is dedicated to bringing Christ, love, hope, education, leadership programs, community development and support to countries like Guatemala and Nicaragua. Our programs have helped many children and adults with a better understanding of what Christ's love is like while giving them education and a better life through ’smokeless’ stoves and clean water.

Nicaragua

Our goal in Nicaragua is to share the love of God by targeting three key areas: education, community and health. Collaborating with the local church, the local school and community leaders, we work together to identify areas to serve and impact lives. Our newest project in 2021 is a youth sponsorship program which not only supports youth to continue with their studies, but provides weekly classes on values at the local church and provides opportunities for the youth to develop leadership skills through community projects and work experience at local businesses.

Brick Factories Pakistan

There are  20,000 brick kilns in Pakistan, where adults and children are often duped into bonded labour by factory owners who give them loans. Families agree to work to pay off the debt but bosses add high interest and living expenses – making the debts impossible to pay off. Salaries for adults – who are forced to work at least 14 hours per day in brutal conditions – can be as low as $5 per day.

One By One Directors Matthew and Becky Murray responded by opening a children’s home for rescued children from these factories and launching a Sunday School outreach project in Pakistan and is now reaching over 1500 children in 50 brick factories every week, spreading hope and the good news.

Metro World Child

Metro World Child is a global, faith-based humanitarian organization dedicated to serving children throughout New York City, various urban centers and rural communities around the world.

At Metro World Child we don’t believe that there are hopeless people or situations; we do, however, recognize that there are many children growing up in difficult and challenging environments all across the world who just don’t have very much hope yet.  That is why we exist, to step in and to shine a light in some of the world’s darkest places and to bring hope and the message of the Gospel to at-risk children in urban centers all across the globe.
