The mission of The Way is to improve the quality of life for those living in extreme poverty.
We believe all people should have equal opportunity to the basic needs of life.
Goal One
Relationship.
“The most important relationship I have is with Jesus Christ! It’s through Him that I’m where I am and able to do what I do. He has set me free from many past struggles. I want to give people the opportunity to know Him and I believe He is the hope to every situation.” — Patrick Wells
Building relationships with our partners is also a top priority. Through these relationships we are able to have a greater impact on the community. These partners live life with those we are trying to empower. The partners play a key role in our poverty alleviation efforts.
Goal Two
Identify the need.
Each area does not have the same need. For some, food is the main need, others it’s clean drinking water or a proper shelter. There are also other underlying needs such as health issues including mental health, job security, drug or alcohol abuse, and or abusive relationships.
Our goal is to identify the need and meet the need together. With the individual, our partners and our supporters.
Goal Three
Have a lasting impact.
What we don’t want to see is when we are not physically in a community that the help stops. We want to equip our partners and the individuals to live an abundant life and rise above their current situation. We want to see each person living an impactful life and impacting others.
This is not accomplished through sending money to those we see as lacking what we have but rather pulling out their strengths, getting them connected and providing them with the tools needed.
Stop and listen. Our goal is not to push our own agenda on those in need. We listen to our partners and to those in need and collectively we identify the need and meet the need with a solution.
It’s important we don’t have the mindset that we alone have the best solution to solve global poverty. What works in one area may not work in another, a need in one area may not be a need in another. Through building relationships we empower and strengthen each party represented in every area we help.
Globally, 10 percent of the world is living on less than $2 a day.
That’s just over 700 million people living on less than $1.90 a day.
Children are disproportionately affected by poverty. According to World Bank Data, half of the population living in extreme poverty are children.
Money isn’t a complete measure of poverty. Other dimensions of poverty include access (or lack thereof) to work, health, nutrition, education, sanitation, housing, etc.
Covid-19 expected to push 49 million people into poverty in 2020.
More than ever we need to keep our partners strong!
During the Covid-19 pandemic we are actively sending financial support to our partners in the Philippines, Guatemala, Kenya, Uganda, and Nicaragua. Each area is in desperate need of food and basic supplies.
Together we can make a difference!
As we work with local groups we are able to quickly identify the needs and collectively apply a solution. People living in extreme poverty have great ideas and the ability to change their surroundings, however often these people have limited to no resources and are disconnected.
As we all do our part I believe we can make a difference in the lives of these people living in extreme need! Through the generous financial support of donors, through the experience and know how of our partners, through the recipients and through team members connecting everyone together we will change communities!
